The heartbreaking history of the fair Rosamund
Presented a few months ago in Florence in concert, Rosmonda d’Inghilterra (Rosamund of England) has now moved to the stage in Donizetti’s hometown, Bergamo, for its opera festival, in the theatre named after the composer himself.
His final collaboration with librettist Felice Romani, Rosmonda‘s 1834 première in Florence met with such a tepid response that there was only one revival, eleven years later. Then the work disappeared from the repertoire, partly due to…
