La bohème, contemporary opera
Like Henri Murger, who had lived a life of poverty in his youth and had poetically recalled it in his Scènes de la vie de bohème serialized in a newspaper between 1847 and 1849, even Puccini thinks of his youth, lived in hardship, when choosing the subject for his new work in 1895 together with the librettists Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa.
Anything but romantic, La bohème is almost a social protest…
